Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology (VURH)
The University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice, Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology (USB RIFCH) is the largest and most comprehensive workplace dedicated to exploring and particularly applied research in the field of fish culture and water protection in the Czech Republic.
The Institute has available facilities for its work, such as fish ponds, a specific river fishery district, dedicated laboratories, aquarium rooms, two experimental facilities for research of fish reproduction, genetics, and selection, as well as fish and crayfish farms including recirculation systems with water filtration. The Institute has also the largest specialized fish culture library in the Czech Republic.
Periodical scientific and professional workshops, seminars, and summer courses are also an integral part of Institute’s activities. Over a long term, the Institute has also been active as a publisher of its own materials; we can mention e.g. the special quarterly Bulletin VÚRH (since 1965), the Metodik Series (since 1982), study texts, and special monographies.
